Here are many thousand cell grown trees. They are moved outside in the summer to encourage hardier growth.

The Old Chapel Nursery
Situated at 1,000 feet in the hills of Mid Wales means we are possibly the highest altitude commercial tree nursery in the UK. The majority of stock is grown from seed collected by us from upland Wales. This means our trees are hardy and suitable for planting anywhere.

We are suppliers to:
• Local Councils
• Wildlife Trusts
• The Woodland Trust
• Forestry Commission
• Farmers
• Foresters
• Gardens and Parks

Tree Stock
All stock is traceable to provenance and the Forest Reproductive Materials regulations are followed. This is useful to you, especially when claiming enhanced planting grants.

On most tree planting schemes it is generally recommended to use plants grown from locally collected seed. This is referred to as ‘local provenance’. In Wales there are two zones ‘303’ and ‘304’. Trees from either are usually suitable. There are several benefits: the plants are more adapted to the climate, ensuring better survival rates and they provide improved conditions for wildlife.

A large proportion of our stock is grown in cells using a special peat free growing media. This means that our trees are easy and fast to plant and have a compact fibrous root system to ensure the optimum chance of quick establishment. We also stock quantities of bare rooted transplants, undercut to promote good roots. Either are suitable depending on the time of year: cell grown trees can be planted later in the season, though we would recommend avoiding the summer months unless you can water them regularly.

The nursery also stock a range of fruiting shrubs and trees and larger ‘half standard’ sizes.

If you do not see what you want, please contact us. We can usually source most trees at competitive prices. We can also grow ‘to order’ using seed from your own site if appropriate.
