Plant a Hedge
Suggested species for planting a
typical hedge.

The ideal hedge is planted in either one row approximately 6 inches apart or in two offset rows with the plants a foot apart. Either way you will need around 5 plants per running metre. We can offer hedges by the metre in our packs of 5 single species or mixed packs of 25. The best option if guards are needed is the ‘economy spiral’ available separately.

Hedges are usually better mixed. Most people plant between 60% and 80% hawthorn with a mixture of other species. You’ll enjoy adding some fruiting species such as a crab apple, or flowering shrubs like honeysuckle.
