Prunus padus – Bird Cherry

Bird cherry suckers and coppices freely, is vigorous, and used to be commonly planted as a hedge in exposed conditions. The fruit are smaller than the wild cherry and are bitter. Birds like them. The timber is good firewood and pleasant to work.
